About Archives
The Philadelphia chapter of the IESNA was one of the founding sections, being chartered in 1906, the same year that the Illuminating Engineering Society was officially established. From its beginnings at the turn of the century to present days, it helped shape the lighting industry.
In an effort to preserve that history, we are initiating the establishment of a historical Archive dedicated to the Philadelphia Chapter. This archive would consist of "historically significant" items and data related to the chapter and the lighting industry in Philadelphia. Our goal is to create a comprehensive database which would ultimately be made available to the professional community and educators.
We are therefore asking for your assistance by contributing items or information that would help the Philadelphia chapter establish an archive worthy of its history. Items could be any physical and intellectual data such as flyers, letters, programs, newsletters, membership records, correspondence or possibly lighting fixtures.
View the Archive Guidelines to read about what would be considered "historically significant", how we would like to receive items and our goals. The Philadelphia IESNA has never had a comprehensive archive. With a long and illustrious history filled with extraordinary lighting professionals and industry achievements, it deserves recognition. With your help, we can make it happen. Please contact either Bill Kader or John Mixon with any questions.
